My research focuses on understanding the mechanisms underlying the development and perpetuation of inflammation and systemic autoimmunity in humans. Specifically, we intend to characterize the role of stem and progenitor cells in immune tolerance and how abnormalities in their function can contribute to human diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma, and atherosclerosis. In addition, we work on establishing if the use of specific type of cell therapies could modulate inflammation and restore immune homeostasis.
