My primary research interest focuses on the general area of Biofabrication of FunctionalMy primary research interest focuses on the general area of Biofabrication of FunctionalBiomaterials for Tissue Engineering, Regenerative Medicine and Organ-on-Chip Applications.Mainly, my laboratory's overarching goal is to develop advanced biofabrication techniquesintegrated with insights from developmental biology to build engineered 3D in vitro models forpredictive drug discovery and to create functional tissue engineered implants for regeneration.My team is driven to move the bioengineering opportunities from the bench to the market andclinic to significantly change current medical treatment strategies.The mission of my research program is to 1) formulate, characterize and validate novel bioinksfor 3D bioprinting human pluripotent stem cell (hiPSCs)-derived tissues; 2) develop tissueengineeredmodels using cutting-edge 3D bioprinting and hiPSC technologies; 3) transform thedrug development process by providing tissue-engineered 3D models capable of faithfullyrecapitulating the hallmarks of human physiology and disease in vitro. The vision of thisprogram is to produce and validate tissue-engineered organs for replacement and as 3D modelsfor drug safety and efficacy testing.
